Health Literacy at our HUB: Singapore’s Journey Towards the Vision of 1-Drug 1 Medication Information

National Medication Information Workgroup
Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore

The National Medication Information (NMI) Workgroup, established by the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS) with support from the Ministry of Health (MOH), is an initiative aligned with the Singapore National Pharmacy Strategy to enhance public health literacy. Launched in 2019, this initiative aims to create "1-drug 1-medication information leaflet" in localised context, addressing the challenges of inaccessible information and variations in medication information across different sources. The initiative empowers patients to accessible, reliable, comprehensible, and actionable knowledge on medication. The impact has been substantial, with near 700 MILs and educational videos created till date, covering widely used drugs and a variety of common ailments. All materials are readily accessible on Singapore’s national digital health platform, HealthHub, and various healthcare institutions' websites and digital platforms. On HealthHub alone, the number of yearly page views has increased dramatically from 51,240 in 2019 to near 2 million in 2024, demonstrating its widespread adoption and effectiveness in improving public health literacy and patient care.

This approach features a nationwide collaborative effort involving pharmacists from various institutions of public and private sectors, with integration of health literacy principles, and a strategic multi-channel dissemination strategy, ensuring medication information is widely and easily accessible by the public anytime and anywhere.

Evolve 2026

BeWell
New Mexico's Health Insurance Marketplace

BeWell is the official health insurance marketplace for the state of New Mexico. Project Evolve 2026 is an effort for BeWell to revamp its entire user portal and application system to be more accessible and get more New Mexicans enrolled in health insurance. To do this, BeWell looked into overall literacy in the state and conducted focus group testing on its application process with random samples of New Mexicans to see where they had difficulty. The next phase of testing is a statewide health literacy survey, seeing which terms are generally unclear or cause confusion. All of BeWell's material is being re-worked based on the results of these tests to ensure that the greatest number of people can receive and understand health insurance. Bruce Gilbert, the CEO of BeWell is spearheading these efforts.

NC Project AWARE/ACTIVATE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education / Advancing Coordinated and Timely InterVentions, Awareness, Training, and Education)

Dr. Heidi Austin
NC Department of Public Instruction

Project ACTIVATE (Advancing Coordinated and Timely InterVentions, Awareness, Training, and Education) is North Carolina's implementation of the Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) State Education Agency Grant issued by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). NC Project AWARE/ACTIVATE addresses the three tiers of mental health (promotion, prevention, and intervention) through a continuum of education, universal screening, and appropriate services and supports for all students in response to varying levels of need.

NC Project AWARE/ACTIVATE's innovative nature lies in its comprehensive, integrated approach to mental health in schools focusing on building resilience, and supportive, stigma-free environment for students and educators.

  • School-centered approach focused on integrating mental health education directly into the school environment, which is one of the first places where students experience emotional and social challenges.
  • Focus on teacher and staff training recognizing that school staff often serve as first responders when a student faces a mental health challenge.
  • Comprehensive community engagement broadening impact beyond the school walls creating a stronger safety net for students' mental wellbeing.
  • Focus on resilience and well-being as a preventative and strengths-based approach to navigate life's challenges before they escalate into mental health crises.
